| Description: | BUYER Company Profile We are looking to recruit an engineering buyer for our client based on the South Coast in Sussex. The type of materials purchased are: Turned and milled steel parts Machined castings (steel and iron) and forgings (steel) Steel fabrications Steel tube Some polymer materials – glass fibre, fibre-reinforced resin etc. Rubber and other moulding compounds Fasteners Consumables – paint, oils, greases, chemicals etc Some overhead items – machine spares etc Purchasing patterns vary from regular weekly scheduled items to one-off project purchases. Part of the role will be introducing more efficient purchasing systems, including schedules, kanban, faxban etc. The role requires someone who is able to juggle priorities, handle pressure, work efficiently, keep documentation in good order, communicate well and identify and implement improvements. Details of Position Purchasing components and materials to meet production requirements. Negotiating the lowest cost for purchased items Reducing stock levels Working with suppliers to achieve improvements in delivery times, reliability, quality and other factors Introducing new systems – schedules, kanban etc Rationalizing the supplier base. You will report to the Operations Manager. You should have 2 years experience of purchasing engineering products, especially machined metal components, castings, forgings, tube etc. You should be familiar with modern stock management and be computer literate, having a good grasp of excel. Good negotiating skills are essential. It would be an advantage if you had an engineering qualification.. |
