| Description: | Job specification for Design Engineer Acquire a thorough knowledge of the company’s products and their method of manufacture. Develop new products from customer’s requests and prepare 3D visual presentations. Produce design solutions to new products and progress them to production. Modify and improve existing products. Issue 2D CAD drawings to production including engineering drawings with machining details. Ensure all production departments have all relevant information for a new product launch. Manage the prototype process with weekly meetings and update the prototype schedule. Prepare any additional drawings required for production for new or existing product. Source new suppliers and get quotes for manufacturing of new components and negotiate best prices when ordering first batch. Liaise with suppliers to assess and approve samples within agreed timescales. Confirm new component specification and price and issue information to production and purchasing departments. Maintain good records of supplier’s quotes, orders and communications. Maintain accurate cost spreadsheets of all products. Update the price list once a year with new costs. Produce space planning drawings when requested by customers. Assist in planning and installing exhibition stands. Maintain regular back up of all work and deal with IT problems or updates in the design department. Experience and Qualifications Minimum of 2 years experience working as a Design Engineer in a similar environment. Graduate in Product design or Engineering. Able to use Mac/PC to a good level, ideally Solidworks and Vectorworks. |
