| Description: | STRUCTURAL ENGINEER Our client is a small growing company based in West Sussex close to the coast with a turnover around £6m p.a. Up until now they have been using external consultants for their structural calculations. They now feel that the time has come for them to employ a structural engineer in house. Some of their products are preferred by customers, due to the fact that their buildings are designed to be environmentally friendly. You should have at least two years post graduate experience and be I C.E or I Struct E qualified. The salary is c£40k according to how you fit the role. It would be valuable to a company of this size, If you developed this role and got involved with construction on site, making site visits, rather than being totally office based. In this case a car would be provided along with a phone and a lap top. The company is based in an attractive location, close to the sea with good sailing facilities. The company operates a five day week with a basic of four weeks holiday, plus bank holidays and a shut down over Christmas. The following is an outline of the responsibilities of this position; • analysing suitable configurations for the basic structural components of our steel and timber framed buildings. • Producing the structural calculations for these and being qualified for these to be acceptable to the relevant authorities • The ability to come up with practical and cost effective designs and jointing methods that fit our style of building and are within our realms of manufacturing expertise • liaising with other designers, including architects, to reach agreement about safe designs and how they may fit in with the aesthetic concept of the construction; • communicating the design of a structure through drawings, specifications and computer models so that others can construct it; • investigating ground conditions and analysing results of site tests, such as soil samples; • liaising closely with construction contractors • applying expert knowledge of the forces that act on various structures; • using computer-aided design (CAD) technology for simulation purposes. . |
